繼2023年7月擴大涵蓋額外8項專業領域學科，美國國土安全部(Department of Homeland Security)近期再次修改STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics)學位清單(DHS STEM Designated Degree Program)，並新增環境經濟與自然資源經濟學(Environmental/Natural Resource Economics)學科至該學位清單。
持有F-1簽證的國際學生在完成STEM學程後，在符合相關法律法規下，即具備將OPT (optional practical training) 期限延展24個月的申請資格。
